Bringing Home Our Avion 34v aka "The Land Yacht"

In December 2019 we briefly lost our minds when Dustin and I decided to check off an item on the 'ol bucket list and buy a vintage camper.

And not only did we buy a vintage camper. We bought a 1982, 34 foot, triple axle land yacht. Otherwise known as an Avion.

Go Big or Go Home.

Now at this point we knew next to nothing about Avion. It came up on Facebook marketplace and we did a little research. We being Dustin did a little research - I immediately started looking up ideas on Pinterest.

Dustin made the joke we were getting the Laura Lynn version of an Airstream. But in reality we didn't realize what a great find we had found. Not to bore you with details but a few interesting facts when comparing Avion to Airstream:
  • Avion interior is real wood
  • The floor used by Avion is heavier so they tend to stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer
  • Avion used Spray foam insulation where Airstreams tend to have pink fiberglass insulation that mold when wet
  • Avion was the first to advertise 4-Season Livability
  • The skins on Avions are thicker and anodized aluminum
To sum it up Airstream went for being light. Avion went for top of the line from all the different things we read.

Either way it was love at first sight for us.... and we couldn't wait to get her home and tear her apart.
