Farmhouse Bathroom Remodel

When remodeling our home I was terrible at taking before pictures. The worst part is I didn't even realize it at the time. I have a lot of during but very few before.

Our home was built in the 60's and the bathrooms were tiny.

The master bathroom was long and narrow. Over the years the bathroom had been updated. New soaking tub with tile shower, new vanity, etc. In fact at first we did not plan on the bathroom being a complete gut job.

We originally planned to just replace the floor and paint in there. When I was out of the house for a few days Dustin thought he would surprise me by tearing up the floor and laying down the new flooring we had chosen.

We knew that the previous owner (aka my mom) had flooded the bathroom on two occasions when filling up the tub and walking away forgetting she left it filling up.....

What we didn't realize was that even though that water had been cleaned up it had left behind some lasting damage to the subflooring.

Our little facelift to the bathroom had just went to all the subfloor needs to be replaced which turned into needing to gut the entire bathroom.

With the bathroom gutted the conversation got real. This was going to be our forever home. Wouldn't it be nice to have a larger master bathroom?

Now for our home remodel we did do some DIY on the simple things but for the major items we had professional help. One of Dustin's hunting buddies is a builder and he and his crew did a wonderful job on our home remodel!

For our master bath we chose a soaking tub, a separate shower, and custom vanity.

On some things I didn't really care but on others I am thankful that Dustin goes along with my ideas.

Like for the tub. I wanted shiplap on the front and on the wall above the tub and behind the vanity.

I love the shiplap with the white subway tile! And the grout - the color looks perfect and was picked out by our little Joanna Gaines in training, Maddie.

Did you just think - she really let her 9 year old pick out the grout color?

And the honest answer is yes. She not only picked out the grout color for the master bath but she also picked out everything in her bathroom from the tile to the vanity, light fixture, and paint color (more on that to come).

So when the tile guy told me he needed grout for the next day Maddie and I went to Lowe's held our tile up to the different grout color choices... and me frantically looking at bathrooms on Pinterest not sure what to choose because there is no going back. The choice is final.... Maddie said, "this one."

I looked at it and was a little worried it may be to dark. But what the heck let's go for it.

So we did. And it turned out perfect! The kid may have a future in home renovating yet.

The entire bathroom remodel process seemed to be a slow go but it was worth the wait! I can not say enough good things about all the people who worked on this project from the builders tearing down and framing up walls (and everything in between), to the tile guy who took his time to make sure it was perfect, to the plumbers. And also to Dustin for the demo work and Maddie for helping me with demo clean up.

In true Harper fashion the master bath is not 100% complete - a few décor pieces and the full length mirror need to be hung up.... and hardware needs to be added to the vanity -- but I just couldn't wait to go ahead and share it.

So with out further ado welcome to our master bathroom.

The tub is definitely my favorite part - and Dustin loves the huge shower. We are in love with our new bathroom and so happy with how it turned out.

This was the pendent light I choose to go over the bathtub - it was purchased thru Amazon.

The vanity light to match was also ordered from Amazon.

Love the sink? In our previous house I was given a vintage sink. I then drew up what I wanted the vanity to look like and we had it built. I LOVED my old vanity and when we sold our old house I would have taken it with me.

Here is our old house vanity:

This time I could not find an original sink but I was able to find a reproduction on Etsy sold by

The quality is great! And thus far it is holding up well. It is easy to clean and is perfect for our farmhouse bathroom.

The fixture for the sink also came from Amazon:

If you go with the same sink you will need the drain also - this is the one I ordered from Amazon:

Stay tuned there is still more house to come.
