Miranda The Avion - Demo Day

Finally spring arrived and the rain held out off for a few hours so we decided to get started.

When watching Chip and Joanna Gaines you can't help but love Chip's excitement at demo day. And Maddie was totally channeling her inner Chip and with her hammer at the ready was all about tearing some stuff up.

And in true fixer upper fashion there always seems to be a surprise hidden underneath. Our fixer upper project was no different. Even though we had checked the floors out good before we bought Miranda we were in for a little surprise when we pulled the couch out. A soft spot. At first there may have been a little panic.

And perhaps a little cursing on Dustin's part.... But after a few deep breaths we reminded ourselves it was a 1982 camper and of course there was a soft spot. No big deal. We got this. 💪

So Dustin kicked it into high gear and started tearing the flooring out at the front of Miranda. The soft spot was not very big and Dustin quickly figured out the issue of where the water was coming in.

We decided to replace the front floor portion to a certain point back and worked on removing the floor up to that point. I'm not going to lie to was a lot of hacking and clean up....  Dustin did the hacking and I did the clean up.

Once the floor was removed where to start?

It wasn't as simple as cutting a square and you're done. The Avion floor was rounded at an angle. First we tried using craft paper to trace out the front. We then put the paper on our wood and Dustin cut it out.

Yeah... That didn't work so good. We were definitely off. So Dustin decided to try something he had seen as an idea someone else had used.

He went to Lowe's and bought a roll of copper pipe. (I know this sounds crazy but stick with me) Dustin then ran the copper pipe around the front of the Avion where the floor would be going. When he was done we had a perfect outline of the shape of the front of the floor. Plus this shape was not easily misconstrued. Dustin placed this on his wood and cut and it fit perfectly.

The floor going in was another day. And with the help of a good friend (and Maddie and I staying out of the way) they got the new subfloor and installation in with what seemed to be no problem.

When we first laid out our plans for the camper I said I wanted a bed in the front. Our plans were to take out the couch and then the front into a second bedroom. In my mind I wanted the bed running the length of the front. I had seen pictures on pinterest... and fell in love with this one --->

But after some back and forth plans changed and we decided to downsize the bed to a full and put the bed to one side.

This would give us a little extra room. Plus our plan was/is to put up a divider or a curtain so that it is truly a bedroom area.

Stay tuned for what comes next!
