I have a confession.
And some may judge me for it.....
I did not like the original hardware in Miranda.
There I said it.
It may be a sin to some Avion owners but I was not a fan of the cabinet hardware in Miranda The Avion.
Maddie and I love to update pieces with cute Hobby Lobby knobs. I went into the craft room and pulled out our basket of knobs.... because doesn't everyone have a random basket of knobs?!
No, Just us? LOL
After trying out a few options Maddie and I agreed that the vintage clear glass knob looked great against the new paint.
For the main area of Miranda the Avion we went with the clear glass knobs (these can be found at Hobby Lobby).
Maddie loves to deer hunt with her dad and she loves to target practice with her bow so this was really adding a little of Maddie's personality to her part of the camper.
Once we had selected the knobs I knew we needed new hinges.... poor Dustin... these are the little things I notice that he pays no attention to. I started looking up hinges... and let me tell you they were not cheap! Lowes and Home Depot had nothing in my prince range.... but then I found these on Ebay More in my price range and silver.
I ordered two sets just to ensure I had extras if need be. Reinstalling all the hardware was probably the most frustrating just because it was very time consuming. But thank goodness for drills!
The only negative thing I have to say about the new hinges is that the screws that came with them were not the best. If you are not careful it is easy to strip them out - even using the correct drill bit. So in some areas I used Miranda's original screws.
But once they were installed I was so please with this update! Good bye vintage bronze hello classic silver!
Now that the outsides were updated the inside of the cabinets also need new latches. Some of the cabinets latches were broken... some missing all together. Miranda had two styles of latches - magnet and clip. I preferred the magnet so that is what I choose to go with and found these on Amazon.
We installed these throughout Miranda and have been very pleased! They are strong enough to keep the doors closed when on the road but easy enough for 8 year old Maddie to open without a problem.
This may seem like a small item on the remodel list but it to me was one step closer to making Miranda ours.
