If you know me at all, or if you read much of this blog, you know that I love Pinterest! I like to think I am a creative person but on some projects I like to draw inspiration and see what others have done. I mean why reinvent the wheel? If someone has already done the hard trial and error phase why not learn from them? --- At least that is how I look at it.
I decided I wanted to take this old door and turn it into a headboard. Again I love Pinterest so I went looking for some inspiration. There I found a great tutorial from
Life with Neal and Suz - I liked how they added a little extra to the door to really make it look complete.
I am lucky. I am lucky that I have a husband who helps out with all my crazy ideas. Because let's face it on the majority of the projects I decide to tackle I can complete part of the project but I always need him to help me take it to that next level. When it comes to cutting angles I am clueless and yes I could learn but I figure I'll stay in my lane and let Dustin continue to feel needed. Because let's face it without him I would have just painted this old door and hung it up to where it would have more than likely fallen to it's doom.... Plus he is awesome about me showing him a picture and then him making it a reality!
Back to our project - Here is a before of the door:
I started out my project by sanding the door..... and since we have just moved of course I could not find the sander so I sanded it by hand the best I could. And by best I could I mean till I ran out of sandpaper.....

Once I was done painting the door it looked great! But it needed something else. That was when I found Life with Neal & Suz. I loved how they added some molding and a board to the top of the door to make it look more finished.
I don't have much patience. And since I had Dustin working on this I knew I had to get it painted so that he would help me finish it that day..... otherwise it could be weeks before it was done. After all we working on this right in the middle of deer season. Which is a big deal in our house.
So I quickly painted the molding. Our entire house seems to be in chaos from the move but I wanted to get our room complete as this was going to be the headboard in our master bedroom.
<---- Here is a quick snapshot of the back of the door once it was attached to the bedframe. I did not paint the 2x4's or the back of the door since you would not be able to see it.
So we did this little project in December of 2020 and I just realized I never published it. It is now October of 2021. Is our home remodel done?........... No.......... But we have come along way and are so close!
And I am still in love with my door headboard.
