Miranda the Avion has a back bedroom with two twin beds. Perfect for Maddie and camper travel buddy, Border Collie Doc. In the future when she is old enough to bring a friend this will be the perfect area for them.
When we brought Miranda home one of the first things I purchased was Beddy's bedding for Maddie's bunk room. What is Beddy's? Beddy's is basically zip up bedding. The comforter and sheet both attach to the fitted sheet that wraps around the mattress.
I had stumbled across Beddy's and knew for this high traffic area in Miranda the Avion it was the perfect solution. But if you have looked at the Beddy's website you know this bedding isn't cheap.... surprisingly talking the hubs into this was easier than I expected....
Read and learn. The conversation went a little like this:
"Remember in the pop up how Maddie's bedding would be everywhere on her side of the camper? Well since we are going to have to walk through her bedroom to get to the bathroom that could be a disaster! I mean imagine walking through there in the middle of the night and getting all tripped up in the covers she has kicked off onto the floor...." Now I had his attention. "You'll be mad and cussing because it's dark, your half asleep and you just tripped and hit your head on something." I think he was laughing now but only because he could also see this happening I'm sure. And then I lead into the solution of Beddy's.
Once Dustin was on board I ordered the Beddy's for Maddie's bunkhouse during a sale they had around Christmas. {Want to order and save? Click Here or the picture above for my referral link which will save you $50 off your first order}
Much of the camper remodel (especially the bunk room) was designed around coordinating with this bedding.
Let's take a moment to remember the BEFORE {photos coutsey of my sidekick Maddie}:
And a little during.... Omg in the remodel process we seemed to have random stuff everywhere! Hence the kitchen cabinets on the beds while we finished working on the kitchen and the new exterior vents on the other bed.
New Paint!!
The white really brightened it up in the bunkroom!
Time for new hardware and knobs. This may have been Maddie's favorite part because we let her pick the knobs she wanted for her bunk room. A quick scan of Hobby Lobby's website almost gave her to much to choose from. But she saw the buck head and immediately said she knew she wanted to use that one somewhere in her room. I won't lie I almost cringed a little at first. But I kept my mouth shut and she kept scrolling. Then Maddie saw the arrow. "Mom! Mom! Look at this!" I still remember her excitedly saying. Then she told her me her vision of putting the deer in the middle with the arrows pointing at it.
I think even Joanna Gaines would have been proud of this design moment.
Maddie loves to deer hunt with her dad and she loves to target practice with her bow so this was really adding a little of Maddie's personality to her part of the camper.
Next came the mirrors.... Those 80's mirrors..... They are definitely interesting.... But they had to go!
Dustin and I discussed what to do with them.
Do we remove them? Dustin said no to that. He pointed out that removing them may cause more trouble.
Do we paint them? When looking at other Avion remodels I had seen where people had painted them. And they turned out really good but that was not really what I was wanting here. Good 'ol Pinterest. When looking at camper remodels I found where several used peel and stick wallpaper.
Hmm..... that could work.... I looked on Amazon but it's really hard to tell from a picture. I wanted a shiplap look but when looking at pictures on Amazon I couldn't quite tell much of what they looked like. I carted several but hadn't decided yet when by chance I stumbled across some at our local Wal-Mart.
Maddie and I decided to give it a try. First we prepped the mirrors by cleaning them really good and then letting them dry. Once they were ready I grabbed an old gift card out of my wallet to use to smooth the wallpaper on. For this project I also used scissors and a box cutter to trim the wallpaper edge along the camper wall.
The first section was up. This was a surprisingly easy project! If you have ever worked with sticker vinyl this is very much the same. I did have a few air bubble spots that I could not get smoothed out so I used a small pin to poke the wallpaper thus letting the air out and allowing me to smooth the bubble out.
For the top part I cut another section of paper and lined it up to where it was not obvious that two separate parts were used.
I think the bunk room came together so well! I love how the wallpaper almost appears as a headboard for the beds. And that floor? I cannot get over how much of a difference the new flooring makes as well! There are also new curtains in the bunk room but shew the curtains for Miranda were such a big job they deserve their own separate post at a later date!
Here are a few more pictures of Maddie's bunk room:
You may have looked at these pictures and thought - What about the bottom drawers? Or you could have looked at these pictures and not even noticed the bottom drawers....
When looking for new knobs Maddie made a good point. We didn't need anything that stuck out like the current ones because you could hit your leg on them in the middle of the night. We decided to go with leather straps for the handles on the bottom. But let's just say with some Hobby Lobby faux gray leather that was a little bit of a Pinterest fail... so later on when the budget allows we will tackle that little detail.
