Miranda The Avion - Bathroom

Bathroom Remodel Supplies Used:

One thing I love about Miranda the Avion is all the storage! Coming from a pop up to Miranda was a total game changer and I admit she even has more storage than we need or use.

Bathroom Before

The bathroom is another area that has a tremendous about of storage. When we bought Miranda the bathroom was very dark and like everywhere else I wanted to lighten it up.

Maddie loved the blue paint we used on the kitchen cabinets and since we had a bunch of it left we decided to paint the bathroom cabinets in that color.

To do this I decided to take the cabinet doors off so that they would be easier to paint. Due to the rainy weather when Maddie and I decided to paint them it was easier to paint these in the basement.

Just like everything else - we sanded the wood first and then taped off our mirrors and got to painting.

Here is the cabinet with the doors off so you can really see the inside - I mean look at that big area!
Before Paint

After Paint

Now with the paint drying it was time to look at the sink area. The counter top was the same as what was originally in the kitchen. Eventually I would like to replace the entire vanity but right now that was just not in the budget.

For the wall behind the toilet I had some peel and stick vinyl/wallpaper left over from the bunk area. I decided to use it dress up that space versus painting it.

I think that was a quick update that made for a big impact and definitely made the bathroom a little more easy on the eyes.

Now for the countertop. As I said eventually we plan to replace this so I figured I had nothing to loose. I had seen on Pinterest where some people had taken contact paper and gone over their countertop. The ones I saw said to put modge podge down over it to help seal it since it would be in an area with water.

What the heck! Let's try it!

Now due to the shape of this it was a total pain in the butt! And there was no way to avoid a seem. But oh well. I pulled up the old caulk from around the sink and applied my contact paper.

Now I don't know if you have a little helper but our little helper loves to right there in the mix of any type of project. Once I had applied the contact paper I figured applying the Mod Podge would be a perfect job our little helper Maddie. She used a foam brush to apply the Mod Podge in a thin coat. I think we ended up applying two coats just to make sure we had gotten a good coverage.

Now that the counter was done the top vanity light / mirror looked really dated still having a wood panel look to it. We had left over contact paper so why not.

This bathroom remodel was very cheap but to us very much worth it! We love the new bright space and even though it was a tight fit painting the bathroom I would do it all over again for the final outcome!

Here is a final look at the bathroom taken recently. It has been a year since we did the bathroom countertops and numerous camping trips later. The contact paper and Mod Podge have held up well thus far.

Have you used contact paper for counter tops? If so what were your thoughts on how it held up?
