I love my fireplace but sometimes with the black interior it can be a little dark. And until this week it has been in the 60's in Georgia so there was no need to turn it on. Maddie and I love Christmas Crafts so we thought adding some 3D trees would help make it more festive.
Last year at Christmas we made felt trees (view original tutorial here) and loved how easy they were to make.
But I didn't have any wood pieces on hand and it was raining so didn't feel like wondering the woods.... so into the craft box I went. I had several vintage wooden thread spindles left from the other Christmas tree craft we did.... seeing a trend here.... and they would work for this project to.
I wanted two sizes of tree so I printed out a large size and a regular size of the template. One sheet of felt would fit one of my large tree and one of my regular size.
- Cut out your trees - this is the most time consuming part of the project
- With your hot glue gun put glue around the right edge of one tree
- Press one of the other tree pieces to that one you just glued and continue till are your pieces are connected (see video below for full process)
- Attach the tree to your base. I did not want to glue my tree to the thread spindle - I wasn't ready for level of commitment - So I took painters tape and wrapped it around the spindle with the sticky side out. I then interested the spindle into my tree and pressed the felt so that it stuck to the tape.
Viola! Cute trees just in time for Christmas! Cute, easy, fun craft!
